Hun Manet Thanks the Communist Party of Vietnam for Always Helping Cambodia

HANOI: The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, has thanked the party, government, army and people of Vietnam for always helping the Cambodian people. He expressed his thanks during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on Tuesday afternoon, 9 August.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Van Van Thuong, praised the close ties and good cooperation between the two countries and peoples of Cambodia and Vietnam, and also praised Cambodia's progress.

In response, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet expressed his interest in Vietnam's development and joined in congratulating Vietnam on its success in hosting the 31st SEA Games and controlling the spread of Covid-19.

As 2022 marks the 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries, as well as the 45th anniversary of the Day of Remembrance Towards the Overthrow of the Pol Pot Genocidal Regime, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the party, government, army and people of Vietnam for always helping the Cambodian people in all circumstances, as good neighbors in difficult times, supporting the construction and development process of Cambodia.

Cambodia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on 24 June 1967, 55 years ago. Relations between the two countries have historically been interdependent, with Cambodia helping Vietnam to reunite the nation on 30 April 1975, and Vietnam sending its volunteer troops in late 1978 to join the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation to overthrow the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, enabling Cambodia to guarantee the right to life, and acting as the starting point of national development to this day.
